Review: Official Release Party of the Puget Sound Mixtape (EXAMINER.COM)

The official release party of the Puget Sound Mixtape , the brainchild of Darxiide was held Wednesday, July 28th, at Hell's Kitchen in Tacoma. Hosted by Mr. Von, he and DJ Ice Man started the show welcoming guests and playing a few mixes. Special guest D-Rocc opened the show, performing with Golden Brown Entertainment. D-Rocc also performed the next night, July 29th at the Gentleman's Club in Tacoma with Island Trybe and Aomas Entertainment.

Mr. Von helped keep things organized by calling each performer on stage and DJ Ice Man remained a permanent fixture with his laptop playing snippets of the mixtape in between performances. Each artist performed a minimum of two songs, including his song from the mixtape.

After D-Rocc, the show continued with Mastermind, Dru Filthy, The Realest with Sic-ill, AKA with Corey Lang and Jontae Grant, Greg Double G, Whikid, $krilla, Mr. Vonn and DJ Iceman with an impromptu battle, Golden Brown Entertainment, and finally Josh Rizeberg with EEEtree.

Dru Filthy shined by remixing his song featured on the Puget Sound Mixtape. The Realest, in addition to performing his track from the PSM, also debuted his song, My Angel, featured on his new free album, "Till I Fall", demonstrating the ability of the hip hop genre to cover a variety of emotions and stories.

The best performances of the night were Greg Double G, AKA, and Josh Rizeberg. Audience members could see Greg Double G enjoying himself and dancing on the stage. He and his crew were especially expressive during his song, "All I Need" featuring Tycoon and MacWayne and "There She Goes" featuring Uncle Moo and MacWayne. Josh amazed everyone with an impromptu battle at the end of his gig after singing I-Self and another rap hyping the benefits of living healthy and the reality of the brevity of life.

On a personal note, it was nice to finally meet some of the artists featured in previous articles and to finally see some of their live performances.
